Jason Thrasher lives in Athens, Georgia where he's been working as an artist and professional photographer for nearly 20 years. His coverage of the Southeast's rich and varied music scene includes portraits of the Drive-By Truckers, Pylon, Elf Power, Monsoon, Muuy Biien, Of Montreal, Futurebirds, Outkast, Against Me!, Olivia Tremor Control, and the Elephant Six Collective. Thrasher has been photographing musicians since he first picked up a camera. He's photographed his friends along the way and living in Athens Georgia has put him at the center of one of the world's greatest music scenes. His work with musicians, like his personal art projects, is a body of work about a specific time and place. Luckily that place was, and still is, Athens.
Thrasher's music photography and music videos have been published in print and online for Bitter Southerner, Oxford American, Rolling Stone, Spin, Paste, Billboard, Entertainment Weekly, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, New York Magazine, USA Today, Flagpole Magazine and Garden & Gun, to name just a few. His work is featured in the album art of the Drive-By Truckers, Patterson Hood, David Lowery, Cracker, Booker T., Dave Marr, Randall Bramblett, Brent Cash, Camper Van Beethoven and many more. His promotional photography for ATO Records, Anti Records, Warner Brothers, New West Records, Jet Set, Razor & Tie, and Polyvinyl has produced many iconic images.
Jason's new book, Athens Potluck, set for late 2017 release by Deeds Publishing offers a rare glimpse inside the eclectic, oft-secretive and world-famous Athens music scene. Select images from the Potluck collection were installed at the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in 2015, and are now installed at the Georgia Theatre Gallery in downtown Athens.
